Apeksha Gore
Eggless Apple Crumble

Ingredients -
For the filling -
3 large apples, peeled and cut into smaller bite size pieces
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Zest of 1 lemon
1/2 teaspoon himalayan pink salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
For the crumble -
3/4th cup plain flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup butter - softened or partly melted
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon milk - if required
Method -
Filling -
Place the apple pieces in a heavy bottomed pan and drizzle lemon juice, zest, sugar, cinnamon powder and salt
Cook on a low flame for about 10-13 mins, tossing only gently
The fruit should be tender but not disintegrate, as this will cook further during baking
Crumble -
Mix all ingredients, starting with 1/2 of the flour.
Rub together so that large crumbs start to form.
If the crumble looks very runny or wet, add more flour. If it is too dry add small amount of milk
The final texture should be crumbly and towards dry side
Final assembly -
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
Line a flan or pie dish with baking paper
Fill the baking dish with cooked apple pieces
Top with crumble layer. If the crumble is slightly wet, do not smoothen it out, add small chunks using your hands to get the crumbly texture
Bake for 20-25 mins - during this time keep rotating the crumble to get even colour.
Serve warm with vanilla icecream
