Twisted Jammy Bread



A very beautiful and exquisite looking, yet easy to make twisted bread recipe.

This can serve as a light dessert or even as a great accompaniment to a cup of tea.

Ingredients

Bread:

  • 1 and 1/2 tsp dry yeast

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup warm milk

  • 2 cups flour (plain and whole wheat, half and half)

water

1 egg white

1 tsp olive oil

Filling:

Any Jam or fruit preserve (loosened up with a bit of warm water) or even nutella

Method:

  1. Add 1 and 1/2 tsp yeast to half a cup of lukewarm water, add 1 tsp sugar to this and give a little stir.

  2. Set aside for 10 mins till the yeast work on the sugar and form a frothy mixtureMix salt to the flour

  3. Gradually add yeast mix to the flour, careful not to hit the yeast with salt

  4. Knead to a soft dough, adding milk as required

  5. Knead for 8-10 minutesTuck the dough in and apply olive oil

  6. Cover and leave the dough to rise until double in size (about 1 to 1 and 1/2 hour)

  7. This recipe makes 2 portions, so i used half of this for another recipe (see braided stuffed bread)

  8. Knock down the risen dough and divide into 3 balls

  9. Roll out disks roughly 8-9 inch diametertake the first disk, apply a generous layer of your chosen filling

  10. Place 2nd layer on top and repeat the filling application

  11. Finally, cover with the last layer

  12. Leaving about a 2 inch diameter circle in the centre, cut 1 inch strips fanning outwards from the centre with a sharp knife

  13. With a slick movement, twist the strip twice to make a curled petal shape

  14. Once all strips are done, press down with fork or tuck in like pasty curls (I can never get those right)

  15. Lightly egg wash

  16. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for upto 20 mins, checking after 15 mins.Serve warm or cool as preferred
